Cinco de Mayo and Derby Day

I love Mexican food and margaritas… and mint juleps and chocolate-chip-pecan pie. So it’s problematic for me that the Kentucky Derby is on Cinco de Mayo this year. I still haven’t completely decided what I am going to do, food- and dessert-wise, but we have to go to a thing that evening so I won’t be having a party, sadly.

Regardless of what I end up doing, I plan to post a recipe for bourbon balls in the next day or two. But in the meantime, I wanted to remind you of some good ideas for Saturday, regardless of which event you’re celebrating.

Kentucky Derby:

Sweet tea mint julep sorbet (pictured above)
Kentucky hot browns
Fruit salad with mint sugar
Bourbon-glazed chicken
Bourbon-marinated pork tenderloin
Bourbon-peach hand pies

Cinco de Mayo:

Chicken tacos (set-up pictured above)
Sopapillas
Restaurant-style salsa
Chalupas
Cheese enchiladas
Southwestern pulled beef
Guacamole salad
Mexican fruit salad
Mexican wedding cake

What are y’all planning for Saturday? Anyone going to the Derby?
