Decades of fashion

I made some lemon bars this weekend, but they didn’t turn out quite right. I will post photos and a recipe for some yummy pasta salad tomorrow, though.

In the meantime: It turns out my eye shadow is stuck in the 90’s but my bun was way ahead of its time. At least according to this Elle “25 years beauty trends” slideshow.

Meanwhile, apparently makeup is going back to the 90’s for the “bare face” look I am not a huge fan of. I have terrible skin, people! If I wanted to look like I was not wearing any makeup, I wouldn’t wear any makeup. And I just bought a new lip gloss I am in love with.

On the plus side, 50s-style clothes are (still) in for fall. I’m guessing you don’t want to look at a slideshow of $4,000 cardigans, so here are a few more reasonably priced items I enjoy that fit the sock-hop aesthetic:

Mullany dress, $258 (

Jessica Simpson brand dress (on sale for $103 at Macy's)

Whirl & Wind cardigan, $88 (

Eiffel Tower cardigan, $26 (Forever 21)

Julias dress, $39.99 (Target)

Of course, as we’ve already discussed, 90s fashion is back. And so is a a lot of 60’s stuff — Mad Men-style, structured clothing, not late-60’s flower child. As well as military-inspired pieces (love!) and letterman-style cardigans (which also have a 50’s vibe).

One last thing. I feel it is my civic duty to tell you about these shoes. I just got them in navy, and they are the cutest shoes ever. They come in four colors. Though, these yellow and gray ones would go with that yellow sweater from Anthropologie. Just sayin’.
